A retrospective audit to assess the quality of radiographic reporting of dentists working within a Community Dental Service in Wales. 65 radiographic reports were assessed in this audit. The audit aim was to improve the quality for radiographic reporting following the Faculty of General Dental Practice guidance, General Dental Council guidance, Department of Health and Social Care guidance and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations. The objective was to investigate the quality of reports by assessing presence/absence of grading, justification, type of radiograph and relevant findings. For radiograph records to be deemed acceptable 4/4 of the parameters needed to be met, the standard was set at 100%. Data was obtained by looking at clinical records and processed using Microsoft Excel. The results showed 92.8% (26/28), 55.8% (19/34) 0% (0/3) compliance in the various community services. The overall compliance was low and thus a need for an action plan and re-audit. Recommendations include asking clinicians to reflect on their radiographic reports, to revise the relevant guidelines, to use the new FGDP guidelines on grading and using a proforma/ template in the clinical notes. A re-audit is due to be carried out.
