Welcome to MaxillofacialSurgery.Wales

This site has been designed to support the specialty of Maxillofacial Surgery in Wales. If you are involved in the specialty please register in order to view the site content or add your own. The site uses the content management software to allow you to contribute. We hope that this will allow it to grow to fulfil your expectations and provide support as you work in the specialty.

It's easy to get started contributing to this website. Knowing some of the basics will help.

What is a Content Management System?

A content management system is software that runs on our web server that allows you to create and manage webpages easily and directly on your browser and immediately present it on the web. You can restrict viewing of your articles and uploaded files to only registered users or make them available to anyone.

In this site we refer to web pages as articles which can be written by any permitted contributor. There is also a facility to upload files like powerpoint presentations. We will then try and organise this information to make it accessible as possible by grouping it into categories. Registered users will be able to view the entire contents of site but you can also elect to make selected visible to the public.

Register with the site and add your own content and sections

To login to your site you need to register and create a user name and password. You will then be validated by one of the site administartors and granted the ability to add information to the site.

Once logged-in you will be able to view the whole site and create and edit articles and upload/download files and share with colleagues.

What might I use this site for?

You can use the site for almost any purpose that you think might be useful to your maxillofacial colleagues in Wales. From providing information and training materials to communicating or coordinating with colleagues in different units using the discussion forum.

For example it contains copies of all the new SHO induction material from the 2 day Ward Induction Course held in Cardiff each year.

Creating an article

Once you are logged-in, a new menu will be visible. To create a new article, click on the "Create an Article" link on that menu.

The new article interface gives you a lot of options, but all you need to do is add a title and put something in the content area. To make it visible to others set the state to published and the Access level to “Public” or “Registered” Users only.

You can edit an existing article by clicking on the edit icon (this only displays to users who have the right to edit).
